A Beginner's Guide To Starting Golf Lessons

The ABCs Of Junior Golf: A Beginner’s Guide To Starting Golf Lessons

Golf can be a life-changer for children! Beyond encouraging them to get active, the relationships, skills, and values learned through this great game will serve them for a lifetime, paving the way for future success.

However, you might ask yourself how you can get your child interested in golf and, more importantly, keep your little one engaged in this activity. It is easy! Let us help by sharing what you can do to help your kid fall in love with the game, through our junior academy golf programme.

Tip #1: Let Your Child Get To Grips With The Fundamentals By Playing

Junior Golf Lessons

At our junior golf academy, we believe that playing is often the best way to learn! Rather than bog children down with the various technical details of golf, which some might find boring, we get them to the ‘fun’ part quickly – playing the sport – to maintain their interest in the game.

Of course, we understand that adult golf is on another level compared to junior golfing. Instead of the whole 18-hole experience, our junior golf lessons are tailored to suit children’s learning needs, beginning with practices on the driving range and putting green to familiarise them with the basics of the sport. Our instructors also utilise the Sime Practice Facility to provide a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of the game.

Tip #2: Make Learning Golf Fun

A Child Interested In Learning Golf

The best way to keep children interested in learning golf is to make the activity fun. So, forget fussing over the perfect grips or textbook postures right off the bat. Let them experiment – as long as they are having a blast and hitting better shots, they are on the right track. The fundamentals will fall into place with time as they continue learning and playing golf.

The importance of maintaining a level of ‘fun’ is why our junior golf lessons often include plenty of age-appropriate games to keep our junior golfers engaged, while helping them improve and develop their technical skills.

Tip #3: Cultivate Your Child’s Enthusiasm In Golf

Junior Golfers

Trust us! Children will devote their attention to the things they are passionate about. That is why we seek to cultivate our junior golfers’ interest in the sport by transforming our junior golf lessons into more than just practice, but a whole experience. From start to finish, we craft their golf journey to feel like one big game. This way, they remain fully invested in the sport.

Our classes incorporate a fun, competitive element where students can earn points that they can redeem at our Golf Pro Shop at the end of the term, rewarding them for their efforts. Appropriate coaching points are also structured throughout each lesson to ensure they receive tangible feedback that they can incorporate into their game to hone their skills.

By giving our junior golfers a goal to chase through the point system, they not only learn the fundamentals of the game but also experience that rush of success whenever they get to redeem their desired rewards. That is the kind of motivation that keeps them swinging!

At the end of the day, getting children into golf should be their idea. Avoid pushing or forcing your child to do it, as you will likely encounter significant resistance. If your kid does have an interest in the sport, try to make the activity fun! Have a putting game on the green, try to hit the ball into a hole, or hit one of the targets on the range. Even if your child does not want to swing a golf club and is content to watch, that is perfectly fine too. Whatever works best as your child’s first introduction to the sport.
