Return of the Tennis Convenor vs Tennis Captain’s Game:
The first at Sime

After a four-year hiatus due to Covid-19 and the transition to Sime, the highly anticipated Convenor vs Captain’s Game organised by the Tennis Sub-Committee took place on a beautiful day on Sept 28, 2024. Started in 2004, this unique game brought together members who are both golfers and tennis players, for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie.

Participants, comprising both “old” members and newcomers were divided into two teams: Tennis Convenor’s team and Tennis Captain’s team. To ensure fair and engaging matches, teams formation was meticulously planned, pairing players of similar skill levels against one other, particularly for tennis.

The day kicked off with golf flights starting at 7am. Participants were blessed with good weather and all were happy to pose for photos to keep as memory. This was followed by a delectable lunch at Berlayer Room and an afternoon of spirited tennis matches on the courts. Despite the sweltering heat, participants showed great sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the day. Club President Lai Mun Onn, an avid golfer himself, wowed attendees with his tennis skills, adding an extra level of excitement to the event. Amidst the friendly rivalry and laughter, the Tennis Captain’s team emerged victorious to claim the Lai Mun Onn’s Shield.

The day culminated in a buffet dinner, highlighted by the irresistible chili crabs expertly prepared by Kamal Ehsan. Reflecting on the enduring success of the event, Kamal, who has been the  Club’s Tennis Convenor since 2003, remarked, “While time have passed and we have grown older, one thing remains the same: we still serve the best chili crabs.”
