Bringing the classroom out to the golf course
For about 90 students from the Institute of Education (ITE) East Campus, their usual Monday lesson on Country Club Management on Oct 7 was anything but usual. Indeed, the first-year students from the Passenger Services course were taken out of their classrooms to Keppel Club, where General Manager Desmond Chua, introduced them to the ins and outs of operating a country club.
Under the blazing sun on Sime course, the students were briefed on the tedious processes required to keep the golf course in tip-top condition. They were also given demonstrations of the various machines employed to cut, groom and maintain the greens. The students also dropped by the gymnasium and tennis courts.
During the question-and-answer session, students asked about the Club’s plan for expansion, and how the Keppel team stay motivated amidst the challenges and restrictions of operating the Sime course. General Manager Chua answered the questions and emphasised the importance of evolving to stay relevant and competitive. He also encouraged the students to enjoy their education journey and shared the importance of adopting a positive attitude in life.
We hope this visit had been beneficial to the students and wish them success in their endeavours.
