Glenfiddich whisky masterclass
On Jan 16, 2025, about 40 whisky lovers gathered in Keppel Club’s Berlayer Room for an unforgettable evening at our Whisky Masterclass, where they had the opportunity to explore some of Glenfiddich’s most exclusive whiskies. The speaker was Mr Yang Min Xiang, a whisky educator and trainer for Glenfiddich and Balvenie brands.
Glenfiddich whisky has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1887 by William Grant in Dufftown, Scotland. The name “Glenfiddich” means “Valley of the Deer” in Gaelic, a nod to the breathtaking natural beauty of the area and the red deer that roam freely around the distillery.
The highlight of the evening was a tasting of three prestigious whiskies from Glenfiddich’s Grand series: the Gran Reserva (21 years), Grand Cru (23 years), and Gran Cortes XXII (22 years). Min Xiang led the participants through the nuances of each whisky, encouraging them to appreciate the unique flavours and characteristics that define these aged expressions. He highlighted an important point: just as we don’t judge a person by his or her age, we should also avoid judging a whisky by its age. Each whisky has its own story, and age is just one part of that story. The Gran Reserva, with its rich fruitiness, the Grand Cru’s delicate complexity, and the Gran Cortes XXII’s luxurious depth, each offered a different perspective on Glenfiddich’s craftsmanship.

The tasting was paired with a sumptuous buffet dinner, specially crafted by our kitchen crew led by Executive Chef Raymond Heng. The tantalising dishes complemented the rich, smooth flavours of the whiskies, creating a perfect harmony between food and drink. It was an evening where taste and refinement shone through in every bite and sip.
As the night drew to a close, two lucky participants were picked in a lucky draw, each walking away with a bottle of Glenfiddich whisky, a perfect keepsake from an unforgettable evening of exploration and indulgence. The expert guidance, exquisite pairings, and the thrill of the draw left everyone eagerly anticipating the next whisky adventure.
