How to sink that perfect putt
Richard Harries is a British PGA professional who has been coaching in Singapore since 2004. He has played in many regional and minor tours as well as the Asian Tour & Sunshine Tour (SA) from 1992 to 2004.
Welcome golfers to a gem of golf instruction – how to sink that perfect putt. Putting makes up 30 to 40 percent of the game.
There is a minefield of confusing, contradictory information about putting. There are endless options on the length and loft of the putter, shaft entry point, grip size, style, etc.
We can hold the putter in numerous ways. And recently, we were told we could anchor the putter to our body.
If you are going to practise your putting, and if you are going to improve your putting skill, pick up a repeatable set-up and a constant symmetrical stroke. This will encourage a repeating rhythm, making judgment of distance more accurate and enabling you to read the green well, including slope and grain.
The symmetrical stroke will vary with the desired momentum and end with a light, calm wrist action.
