Golf tips from the Pro
Golf Tips from the Pro is a new series that features tips from our professional golf coaches. This first contribution provided by Mr Chris Hollaway is focused on junior golfers.
Chris Holloway is a US PGA Pro of 20 years. With an impressive 18-year track record under his belt, Chris owned the Heartland Golf Academy at the now-defunct Jurong Country Club (JCC) for a decade before moving on to Champions Golf. He is now happily teaching at Keppel Club to continue his goal of growing the game of golf in Asia.
Golfing with children
Tip #1
Safety First – The driving range is a fun place, but it is certainly not a playground. Children need to understand the dangers of being hit by a golf club and must be supervised at all times.
Tip #2
Have Fun – With kids, it is all about fun. If they enjoy the experience, they will want to do it again. Let them play, laugh, and learn by making mistakes.
Tip #3
Play – Do not grind them on swing technique or constantly tell them what they did wrong. Keep it very simple and give them achievable challenges to conquer.
The goal is to have your child become a lifelong golfer, so your family can spend precious time together creating memories. “The one thing that absolutely kills me is when I see young children sitting at the range, staring at their devices, plugged in while their parents practise golf. Do not be that parent.”
Alternatively, put your child into our Junior Golf Academy so you can practise while they play and learn. It is a Win-Win!
