COURSE STATUS

In conversation with Susie Tan

“In conversation with …” is a series of interviews with members of Keppel Club. One member will be featured each month from August to December 2024. This month, we feature the sweet and friendly Ms Susie Tan.

Ms Susie Tan and her husband, Mr David Ng, have been members of Keppel Club since 2006. Susie is a diligent office manager by day and finds solace and joy in her favourite leisure activities of golfing and swimming during her free time.

We called Susie to find out her thoughts about Bukit Chermin and Sime. Through her words, it was evident that Susie held a deep affection and loyalty towards Keppel Club:

Q1: What are your impressions of Bukit Chermin and Sime? How do the two courses differ in terms of layout and playability?

A1:  In my opinion, Bukit Chermin has a unique character based on course design. Inherited from colonial day, the course was beautiful because of the matured trees. At the same time, it was very hilly and that posed a challenge that would test the skills and fitness of any golfers. Sime, on the other hand, is a very scenic and beautiful golf course with wide fairways and reservoir view. It is certainly much easier to play in Sime than in Bukit Chermin.

Q2: What do you miss most in Bukit Chermin?

A2: I missed the full facilities of a country club which included the swimming pool, the gym facing the boardwalk and seaside dining at SeaScent.

Q3: What do you like best at Sime?

A3: Firstly, it is that most of our friendly staff from Bukit Chermin have moved over to Sime. The familiar faces and warm service fostered a sense of belonging and comfort in the new environment, which enabled me to readily accept Sime as my new home club. Second, the captivating beauty of the landscape at Sime is a standout feature. Sime offers a refreshing and pleasant ambiance. In particular, the serene and awe-inspiring Hole 5, which has the most breathtaking view among all the 18 holes: two waterways, fountain, reservoir and lush greenery. I have a photo of hole 5 which i would like to share with everyone. Third and most importantly, my whole group of friends from Bukit Chermin “migrated” to Sime, maintaining our group’s camaraderie, as we enjoy our golfing adventures together in a familiar and supportive setting.

Q4: What is your favourite food at Tee Top?

A4: Quesadilla (Chicken) and Guacamole plus a glass of Gunner drink. I would also like to share that some time back, I brought my sister and her family to Tee Top for lunch. There were 9 of us. I ordered the following dishes for them to try: Quesadilla, rojak bakar, Hawaiian pizza, hokkien mee, braised la la bee hoon, fried rice with silver fish and har cheong gai. And they all loved the food very much!

Q5: What improvement or change would you want at Sime?

A5: While having elaborate and full meals are good and necessary, I hope to see more simple and quick-to-eat options, such as toasted bread with kaya, egg sandwich and mee rebus. If these can be available throughout the day, that would be much appreciated. I am sure these will serve the needs of many members and guests.
