Keppel Club President Lai Mun Onn congratulates Newsletter Convenor Peter Teo, and his younger grand-daughter Amanda Yap for winning a historic silver medal at the Asian Junior Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on May 26, 2024.
Amanda, 14, finished second in the balance beam to clinch the silver. It was Singapore’s first medal in the history of the competition. South Korea’s Hwang Seo-hyun won the gold medal and Japan’s Mito Sumikama the bronze.
Amanda’s feat was captured by the social media and The Straits Times on May 27, 2024.
In the team event, the Singapore team of Amanda Yap, Colleen Hong, Emma Goh and Isabelle Lau finished a creditable fourth behind giants China, Japan and Korea.
