Understanding the risks in golf

Wearing a cap, keeping hydrated and being shaded are some measures to protect against heat and sun.

Playing golf, known for its grace and leisure, also comes with its own set of risks that every golfer should be aware of. One of the most common risks on the course is injuries, particularly to the back, shoulders, wrists, and elbows. Sufficient warm-up, proper form and technique and avoiding excessive number of games are some measures to prevent physical injuries.

Weather conditions pose another risk to golfers. In Singapore, lightning strikes are dangerous, so it is crucial to seek shelter immediately if a lightning warning is triggered. Heat is another factor that can affect performance and health. If precautions are not taken, it can result in dehydration or heatstroke.

Golfers should exercise care when playing on wet and slippery ground.

It is best to switch off the buggy before you get out from it.

Impact injuries from stray golf balls are a potential risk. It is essential for golfers to be attentive and cautious, to protect themselves and others by being aware of their surroundings at all times. Additionally, uneven terrain and hazards such as water bodies and sand traps can result in falls if not navigated carefully.

Lastly, when it comes to buggy safety, golfers should operate buggies responsibly, especially on slopes or uneven terrains, to prevent accidents or collisions. Ensuring that all passengers are seated securely and that the buggy is set to “neutral” or “off” when stationary, can significantly reduce the risk of accidents or injuries while using a buggy.

In conclusion, while golf may be a leisurely sport, it is essential for golfers to be mindful of the potential risks they may encounter on the course. By understanding these risks and taking necessary precautions, golfers can ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience on the green.
