COURSE STATUS

In conversation with Goh Kee Seng

“In conversation with …” is a series of interviews with members of Keppel Club. One member will be featured each month from August to December 2024. This month, we met up with the happy-go-lucky Mr Goh Kee Seng.

Mr Goh Kee Seng has been a member of Keppel Club since 2010. He was an entrepreneur who ran several businesses before he decided to call it a day. Happily retired for more than 10 years now, Kee Seng spends much of his leisure time at Keppel Club playing golf. He also enjoys karaoke in Little Harry’s Pub.

Speaking in Mandarin, Kee Seng shares his views about Bukit Chermin and Sime. Below is a translation of our interview with him:

Q1: What are your impressions of Bukit Chermin and Sime? How do the two courses differ in terms of layout and playability?

A1:  Both Bukit Chermin and Sime courses have their characteristics. To me, Bukit Chermin was a technically harder course to play. This is primarily because Bukit Chermin had generally narrower fairways and golfers need to hit accurately. Many balls were lost in the course. Over at Sime, the biggest challenge is the putting green of the holes. It is very difficult to control the direction and the speed of the ball.

Q2: What do you miss most in Bukit Chermin?

A2: What I missed most in Bukit Chermin, are firstly, the friendly members, many of whom did not continue their membership in Sime, and secondly, the wide-ranging facilities such as swimming pool, bowling alley and a big hall.

Q3: What do you like best at Sime?

A3: I like the friendliness of Keppel Club members, and I particularly like the Little Harry’s Pub. Although I am also a member of other clubs, I do not go to those clubs frequently. Instead, I come to Keppel Club almost every day, rain or shine. Keppel Club has a special place in my heart. Don’t ask me why. I can only say it is because the members and staff are very friendly. They make Keppel Club a place that is warm and welcoming.

Q4: What is your favourite food at Tee Top?

A4:  Tee Top has a wide variety of dishes, both local and Western. They are generally ok, serving the basic needs. But I do not find them to be special enough.

Q5: What improvement or change would you want at Sime?

A5: I hope to see more signature dishes in Tee Top’s menu. Our members love to play at Sime. The balloting is always full. So we must have dishes that will attract them after their games. Tee Top needs signature dishes – dishes which make Keppel Club and Tee Top stand out from the rest. We need to have something unique to retain our members and to attract the public. Of course, the price must be “friendly to members lah” … hahaha.
