Golf tips from the Pro
Golf Tips from the Pro is a series that features tips from our professional golf coaches. This month’s contribution provided by Australian PGA Professional, Mr Garry J. Doolan, focuses on building a swing.
Garry Doolan’s golfing career spans over 35 long years, having owned and operated golf shops and driving ranges, in addition to playing and coaching golf. As one of the most sought-after coaches in Australia and Singapore, Garry has been coaching full-time for the past 25 years, during which he also headed eight golfing venues.
Over the years, Garry has introduced golf to thousands of people, a testament of his deep passion for golf.
How to build your swing
For beginner golfers, it is important to work on their upswing, and start by learning the lines and angles in the swing. For power and ball striking, remember to load the wrist in the upswing.
Technique-wise, ensure that your left arm is parallel to the ground and the shaft of the club should be in a vertical position, or even past vertical. This is a crucial part of an upswing.
As a beginner, it helps to find a good coach who can explain and demonstrate the lines and angles in a golf swing, so you can build a foundation for a sound swing.
