Friendship and fellowship make Keppel Club special
We meet Ms Sean Kuan Thye today, as she shares her thoughts about Keppel Club. Kuan Thye and her husband, Dr K.F. Cheah, have been members since 2021 and have since considered the Club a cherished part of their lives.
Kuan Thye or K.T., as she is often called, held regional human resource leadership positions in a global logistics company for close to 27 years, including 15 years in Hong Kong and Shanghai on overseas work assignments. Kuan Thye has recently joined The Conference Board as a Programme Director. In addition, she is a Certified Gallup Global Strengths Coach — a role focused on helping individuals and teams identify and harness their innate talents. She is passionate about developing people and building strong, values-driven cultures.
It is no surprise, then, that what drew her to Keppel Club — and what continues to resonate with her — is its strong spirit of friendship and fellowship, values she holds close both personally and professionally..
Q. What draws you to Keppel Club? Is it golf, the Club’s social events and activities, or the food and beverage here?
A: Friendship. Fellowship. Besides looking forward to playing a better game of golf, what draws me to Keppel Club is also the friendship and fellowship. My husband and I are very blessed to have reconnected with old friends and found new ones at the Club, all of whom we enjoy playing golf with and go on golf holidays with.
Our golf “kakis” are fun to be with. There are always laughters and shouts of joy when one of us has a birdie or par. And when there are friendly competitions, the winners buy drinks, which makes losing a more “pleasant” experience, though winning is preferred! I am extremely grateful to many who are generous with sharing their techniques, as a small change in our technique often leads to a big difference in distance or direction.
Q. Do you enjoy coming to Keppel Club?
A: Yes! Going to Keppel Club for a game of golf always brings joy. There are friends to meet up with, and there is hope of improving my score! While my son said “golf is not exercise, you exercise for golf!”, the fact is an 18-hole game does add thousands of steps!
Q: Do you consider the Club your second home?
A: Since we joined Keppel Club, it is the Club we are spending more time at. And now that I have switched to project-based consulting work, I look forward to more golf games.
Q: What do you appreciate most about the Club?
A: The one thing I appreciate most is the availability and continuity of membership with the move to Sime. I look forward to more good years for Keppel Club@Sime.
Q: Share with us a special encounter during your bowling/billiard game or when playing golf/tennis at the Club.
A: I must say it was the cha-cha-cha dance classes. I am thankful to Bob Wong, Daren Bek and Doris Soh for arranging and personally being there to support us.
