From poolside to fairways
Meet Ms Jean Tan – a senior underwriter in general insurance and a familiar face at Keppel Club for over a decade. Jean’s initial love for the Club stemmed from its tranquil swimming pool, gym, and the scenic jacuzzi overlooking Keppel Bay. The convenient location near the CBD also made it her go-to spot to freshen up before evening functions. But it was about five years ago that Jean caught the golf bug – and there’s been no turning back. Today, she enjoys the sport alongside a supportive circle of friends who help navigate the weekly ballot. A keen traveller who makes time for both long and short getaways, Jean shares with us what she likes about the Club, and a rather cheeky encounter involving a monkey and a handbag!
Q: What draws you to Keppel Club? Is it the sport, the social activities, or the food and beverage?
A: The club’s beautifully manicured golf course and lush greenery are what first drew me in. But it’s really the camaraderie – the laughter shared and friendships forged during every game – that keeps me coming back.
Q: Do you enjoy coming to Keppel Club?
A: Absolutely! I enjoy the Club’s warm, family-friendly atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can unwind at the cozy F&B outlets – relaxed, welcoming, and never too rowdy – just the way I like it.
Q: Do you consider the Club your second home?
A: While I wouldn’t call it my second home, my weekends feel incomplete without a visit to Keppel. A round of golf followed by a hearty meal and good company with my golf kakis – it’s become a much-cherished routine.
Q: What do you appreciate most about the Club?
A: The cheerful staff who greet you by name, the pristine fairways, and the delicious food at the restaurants all make Keppel special. I also enjoy the overseas golf trips the Club organises – the one to Shenzhen Mission Hills in 2019 was particularly memorable. Hoping for more of those adventures soon!
Q: Do you have a memorable moment from bowling, billiards, golf, or tennis at the Club?
A: One unforgettable moment happened at Bukit Chermin some time in 2022. During a game, a mischievous monkey grabbed my flight mate’s handbag and darted into the bushes! We quickly alerted a marshal, who heroically gave chase. The bag ended up in a nearby pond – thankfully retrieved with only a soggy credit card missing (complete with monkey bite marks!). Kudos to the marshal for going above and beyond – it was a wild day, quite literally!
