Finding joy in golfing, wellness and mentorship
Meet Mr Choo Yoo Keong. Yoo Keong, a mechanical engineer by training, holds a Master’s in Systems & Industrial Engineering. His engineering background shaped his ability to approach challenges from a systems perspective. Now retired, he remains active by promoting the health benefits of manuka honey, which he has personally enjoyed for over 25 years.
Beyond his professional background, Yoo Keong is committed to maintaining an active lifestyle. He exercises daily, making it a point to clock at least 6,000 steps, and has found joy in golfing—a pastime that began as exercise but grew into a passion shared with friends and fellow Keppel Club members.
Passionate about mentoring, Yoo Keong values mutual learning with both peers and younger friends at the Club. Guided by his belief in respect across all races, languages, and religions, he embraces listening and understanding as the foundation for meaningful connections.
Last but not least, Yoo Keong is a devoted husband and a proud father of a lovely daughter.
Q: What draws you to Keppel Club? Is it the sport, the social activities, or the food and beverage?
A: I joined Keppel Club in 2001 and am very happy to have extended my membership at Sime. I enjoy the regular golfing with my kakis (friends) on Tuesdays and Fridays and the get-together lunches before tee-offs. The Teochew porridge Promotion set is really value for money. We had ordered the set three times since it started.
Q: Do you enjoy coming to Keppel Club
A: Yes, I do. I meet my financial advisers (relationship managers) and my friends at the Tee Top Restaurant quite often. Many of them like the Korean menu. Credit goes to our F&B Team. In addition, I also visit the gym occasionally.
Q: Do you consider the Club your second home?
A: Keppel Club was my second home at Bukit Chermin Road. Over here at Sime, the location is not as convenient to me. But over time, it may also become my second home.
Q: What do you appreciate most about the Club?
A: I enjoy the sceneries as we drive onto Sime Road. I really appreciate the beautiful bungalow at No. 67 Sime Rd. It is such a joy to see this lovely house. Besides, I also enjoy all the golfing, gym and F&B facilities here.
Q: Do you have a memorable moment from bowling, billiards, golf, or tennis at the Club?
A: Once as I was walking towards the putting green at Hole 6 to catch up with my three flight mates, I suddenly heard a thundering sound and then, a nearby lamp post fell. Still in shock, I called our General Manager, Desmond Chua. Immediately, the maintenance team responded and attended to the incident. They restored the ground and ensured the safety of the golfers before play resumed. Thank God, nobody was injured and we were able to continue with our game. Looking back, I am glad we have an efficient team. Kudos to Keppel Club Management Team!
