Golf and good company
We meet Mr Chua Beng Kiong today as he shares his enduring love for Keppel Club. A semi-retired marine engineer, Beng Kiong has been a member since 2001. He was first drawn to the Club by its vibrant social scene and facilities. These days, golf is what keeps him coming back.
Q: What draws you to Keppel Club? Is it the sport, the social activities, or the food and beverage?
A: It’s definitely golf – and the food after the game. Back when Keppel Club was at Bukit Chermin, I loved the swimming pool and the various restaurants. That was actually why I joined the Club in the first place. These days, it’s mainly golf and the driving range that bring me back.
Q: Do you enjoy coming to Keppel Club?
A: Yes, especially when I’m golfing. I really appreciate the course’s greenery and the mature trees as they create such a nice atmosphere.
Q: Do you consider the Club your second home?
A: Not quite. I’m semi-retired and spend much of my time teaching marine engineering part-time. I was a marine engineer myself, and now I teach adults and diploma students. I’ve been semi-retired for 17 years, so while I enjoy coming here, I balance my time between work and leisure.
Q: What do you appreciate most about the Club?
A: It’s the people. The staff, appointment holders, and members are all very friendly and welcoming. I also really appreciate the Birthday Game initiative. I had to miss my original nominated date due to being on medical leave, and the staff were excellent in helping me reschedule. Special thanks to Fortuna and Mira for making the arrangement so smooth.
Q: Do you have a memorable moment from bowling, billiards, golf, or tennis at the Club?
A: I really enjoy all my golf games, mostly because of the fellowship with friends. I have a regular group of golf kakis, and we look forward to playing together every time.
