Keppel Club Junior Elite Programme: Grooming future champions
As we approach the Keppel Club Junior Invitational 2024 on June 3, and the SGA Singapore Junior Golf Championship 2024 from June 4 – 7, it is an opportune moment to spotlight our Junior Elite Programme, a testament to Keppel Club’s commitment to nurturing young talents.
Funded by parents, the Junior Elite Programme begins its selection process in January and February each year, overseen by our esteemed PGA Coach Greg Anketell. From all the applicants, 16 trainees are selected: eight junior elite and eight junior development trainees. These young golfers train weekly on weekends, alternating between range practice, short game techniques, and 9-hole training sessions.
Several outstanding players have emerged from this programme. Among them are Choo Tze Hwang, Goh Kun Yang, and Nicklaus Chiam, who have become national or professional golfers. The latest addition is Shannon Tan, who aspires to compete in the coming Paris Olympics.
Eugene Heng, our Green Committee member in charge of the Elite Junior Programme, said, “Keppel Club is known for our support for youth development in golf. Our Junior Elite Programme is part of our efforts to groom the next generation of golfing talents.”
As our junior golfers prepare for the Keppel Club Junior Invitational and the SGA Singapore Junior Golf Championship, we extend our best wishes to them. These events are pivotal for showcasing their skills and a stepping stone to advancing their golfing careers.
